Análisis de lista de libros
Mexican American Pepe is excited for the parade he and his family will be attending that day. They have a traditional Mexican breakfast, dress up in cultural attire, and join the other participants who hail from other Latin American countries. All races and geographical areas are represented, from North America to Central America, the Caribbean, and South America. The bright and vivid colors add a festive layer to the illustrations, and the rhyming text is peppered with Spanish words that are defined in a glossary. Many of the rhymes, however, feel forced, and the rhyme scheme is awkward, pulling readers out of the story. Back matter includes an author's note that gives background information on the history of Hispanic Heritage Month, but this could be highlighted for any celebration throughout the year. The explanation of the terms Latino and Hispanic, though a little simplified, are appropriate for the intended audience. While additional purchases many be needed to fill gaps, the bright palette and uniqueness of subject warrants a space on picture-book shelves.--Shelley M. Diaz Copyright 2019 Booklist |
