Knitting educator Gray (Gradient Knits, 2017) offers this ideal and broad series of patterns for the Star Wars fan. From adorable amigurumi porg and Death Star throw pillows to striking intarsia patterns that elegantly incorporate Star Wars motifs ("are those . . . yes, they are Tie Fighters on your hat!"), the variety of patterns means this is a book knitters can return to many times. Household items, toys, and costume replicas make up about half of the patterns, with everyday-wearable garments comprising the other half. Patterns are often paired with stills from the movies to illustrate the item's provenance, and people modeling finished items sometimes resemble their movie counterparts and include people of color. The patterns lean heavily on charted work, but have clear instructions; a glossary of terms and explanations at the back is useful for newer knitters, though few of these are well-suited to true beginners. Knit these, you must. |
