Each car of a zoo-bound train contains a different number of vibrant, stylized animals; their destination is depicted in a fold-out finale. Ages 3-7. (July) (c) Copyright PWxyz, LLC. All rights reserved
Horn Book Review
A clever wordless counting book, in which ten animals ride in cars of a zoo train, suffers greatly from its conversion to a board book. The original oversized picture book easily accommodated the small train that recapitulated the numbers counted at the bottom of each spread; in the board book, the secondary train is practically microscopic, and the whole book is too complicated for its new intended audience. Summary
This board book combines simple counting with Carle's unusual illustrations of animals. Early learners will find the whimsical pictures appealing as they learn the beginning rudiments of numbers and counting.
